Introduction:

Mitacs Internship in Canada 2023-Globalink Research Internship. Mitacs is looking for a Research Intern to join the team on a full-time basis. The selected candidate will be working on a project related to Globalink Research, which involves the analysis of policy making processes and outcomes in Canada. The successful candidate will have an interest in policy analysis and will have at least one year of research experience.

The Research Intern position is open to students graduating from universities or colleges in Canada who are pursuing post-secondary studies (i.e., undergraduate and graduate degrees). Candidates must be proficient in English, French or Spanish. Knowledge of Indigenous languages is an asset but not required.

About Mitacs Globalink Research Program:

Mitacs is the Canadian organization that supports and sponsors international research projects. The program was launched in 1973 and currently offers funding to over 1,000 students from around the world. The program is a partnership between Mitacs and Canadian universities, which are responsible for selecting the projects that will receive funding.

Mitacs offers several types of internships in Canada including Globalink Research Internship (2023-2024), which is fully-funded through its partnership with Mitacs. The internship is designed for students who have completed their undergraduate degree and would like to pursue further studies in Canada or abroad. It also provides opportunities for recent graduates who want to gain practical experience before entering the workforce.

The Globalink Research Internship offers a unique opportunity for students to work on cutting edge research projects at some of Canada’s leading institutions, including: University of British Columbia (UBC), McMaster University, Dalhousie University, Université de Montréal, York University and Carleton University. Students will be expected to conduct independent research under guidance from faculty members or faculty mentors during their two-year paid internship period.

  • Accommodations and Meals: Mitacs will provide accommodation and meals for all participants during the duration of the internship period. Accommodations will be located at university or college residences. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to campus and back home after each day’s work.
  • Travel Expenses: All participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Canada as well as any visas required for study permit purposes. However, if you are unable to come to Canada on your own, Mitacs can arrange airfare or bus ticket costs for you.
  • Other Expenses: Other expenses such as laundry, food, telephone calls etc., are not included in the funding package provided by Mitacs Globalink 2023

  1. A completed application form
  2. Up to 5 letters of reference written by professors, colleagues and employers (if applicable)
  3. Evidence of English proficiency (TOEFL score or IELTS certificate)
  4. Copy of transcript from last year’s post-secondary institution (if applicable)
  5. Copy of passport (for international students)
  6. Cover Letter (including a statement of purpose)
  7. Resume/CV (with names of two references)
  8. Letter of Support from an academic supervisor or employer/internship sponsor
  9. A copy of your passport or birth certificate.
  10. One writing sample that demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely (should be no more than 250 words). This can be an essay on a topic of interest that relates to the research project or dissertation topic you are considering for the program. The writing sample should be in attachment format only, not emailed directly to us as part of this application.

Eligibility Criteria:

The eligibility criteria to apply for the internship are as follows:

  • You must be a citizen of Canada or the United States.
  • You must be in your final year of study at an accredited university, college or trade school.
  • You must have completed your academic requirements by this date and be able to start the program immediately upon graduating.
  • You must have completed at least one academic course and have a minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or higher) in order to be considered for this program.
  • be able to meet all requirements related to health, age restrictions, criminal record check and security screening; and
  • submit a resume and cover letter that clearly describes your qualifications for the program. The cover letter should include details about why you are interested in participating in the program, how you would contribute to it, what kind of experience or skills you have gained from your previous work experience, and what kind of skills or experience you believe will be useful during your time with us.
