Students applying to study from September 2018 onwards would be able to apply for entry into university through two different options:

Academic English Option

Students will be required to complete an academic English course run by INTO Bolton before progressing onto their undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University. The duration of this course will vary depending on the student’s level of English:

Level A1-A2 = 8 weeks

Level B1 = 6 weeks

Level B2 = 4 weeks

Foundation Programme Option

Students who have achieved a minimum grade of 60% in their high school exams (or other equivalent qualifications) will be able to join a foundation program directly at the University with no requirement to take additional academic English courses prior to joining their undergraduate or postgraduate degree course.

The University of Sussex, UK

The University of Sussex, UK has introduced its new entry requirement that doesn’t require IELTS. If you have studied the English language in your high school education or are a native speaker, you don’t need to give the IELTS test for admission into the university.

This new policy is applicable to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the university. The undergraduate courses have their intake in September 2020, while the postgraduate courses have their intake in January 2020.

The University of Sussex has introduced this new policy due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Due to this, all IELTS exams are canceled till 31 May 2020. This policy is a great relief for students who want to study at UK universities but are unable to give an IELTS test because of the lockdown situation.

The University of Sussex offers a variety of courses to its students. Some of these courses are:

Anglia Ruskin University, UK

Anglia Ruskin University is a public university in East Anglia, United Kingdom. It has 39,400 students worldwide and has campuses in Cambridge, Chelmsford, and Peterborough. It also shares campuses with the College of West Anglia in King’s Lynn, Wisbech, and Cambridge. It has its origins in the Cambridge School of Art, founded by William John Beaumont in 1858. The school became Anglia Polytechnic after it joined the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology and the Essex Institute of Higher Education. The University of Warwick is a public research university in Coventry, England. It was founded in 1965 as part of a government initiative to expand access to higher education. PTE exam score of 56 or more;

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Internet-based test with a total score of 80 or more;

British Council’s International English Language Testing System Academic (IELTS Academic) overall band score of 6.0 or more in each component;

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE); Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE); Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): Overall score 56 or more.

University of Edinburgh

The University of Edinburgh is one of the top 10 universities in the UK. The university was ranked 17th in the QS World University Rankings 2019, and 7th in the UK.

The university offers foundation and undergraduate programs for international students who do not have IELTS scores.

Entry requirements:

  • Students must meet a minimum academic requirement of at least 5 passes at ‘O’ levels/Year 12
  • or equivalent to be considered for direct entry into an undergraduate degree program at Edinburgh Napier University.

Applicants must have completed a foundation course and have obtained a minimum score of 60% overall, or have successfully completed 12 years in secondary education.

The University has approved alternative English language qualifications to IELTS.
